On Saturday morning, 27-05-2017, about 30 of us KIVI members were guests at Herpertz b.v.'s new location in Nederweert. Upon arrival, we immediately fell head over heels: Spierings' largest mobile tower crane (Dutch manufacture), the AT6, was being erected fully automatically. Height 37 metres, jib length 60 metres. Maximum load at 13m radius 10000kg, at 60m 1700kg.

After assembly, we were able to take a look inside the crane's control box, which houses the computer that controls the crane and monitors hundreds of sensors. Following Limburg custom, time for coffee and flan. During the break, we were given the necessary information about Herpertz b.v. It's a family business, founded in 1961 and started with the hoist truck below.

The differences in regulations on transport were also discussed. Depending on the country, cranes with a trailer are allowed on the highway (with their own escort or police escort or not at all). Sometimes a crane can be registered as a truck and the rules are simpler. The weight of a "bare" crane is often the number of wheel axles x 12 tonnes. For weights over 60 tonnes, permits must be applied for to cross bridges. Maintenance and servicing of the fleet is carried out in-house.

The lifting plans of some projects were then discussed: The removal and relocation of a monumental spire and the installation of six construction cranes in a 150 x 300m and 15m deep construction pit.

In smaller groups, we went to see the other hoisting and transport vehicles under expert guidance. The range includes small cranes for inside buildings up to the Liebherr 1400t which can handle up to 400 tonnes. During the excursion, this crane (flying the Dutch flag) was fitted with an erection boom, reaching a height of 130m. The Sennebogen 5500 (green crane with Belgian flag) is on tracks and can drive with a load of up to 180 tonnes.

Furthermore, heavy transport vehicles are available and you can also turn to Herpertz for salvage work.

Provided with the necessary information, I would like to thank Mr Jan-Paul Herpertz and the expert tour guides on behalf of KIVI North and Central Limburg for their efforts on this excursion.

Description

This excursion will take place at the new Herpertz site on the Pannenweg industrial estate in Nederweert. Here we can see what it takes to move an object. Depending on, among other things, dimensions, weight and flight, the right crane (up to 400 tonnes) is chosen. Lifting plans may also need to be made to ensure that everything is done safely.

During this open day, around 40 cranes (in all sizes and types) and other vehicles can be viewed. There will also be demonstrations, including a mobile self-erecting tower crane.

Experts from Herpertz will be on hand to provide us with all the information we need.

-- SPECIALITIES --
In order to be able to view the widest possible variety of cranes and transport vehicles, this excursion coincides with the open day
