Circl pavilion
A group of 21 comprising members and a single introductee took part in the tour of the Circle pavilion at the Zuidas in Amsterdam after lunch.
The tour started on the bottom floor (basement) where there are a number of enclosed meeting rooms. In these, in addition to chairs, stands have been made, covered with felt, so that people can also sit on them. Like the walls, this felt contains old company clothing.
Several examples of circular inputs were highlighted, such as the high-efficiency solar panels and the experimental solar boiler on the facade. To avoid energy losses, almost all the lighting and other appliances use direct current. Heat from the car park is recovered. Wall finishes are made of residual wood. The insulation material in the ceilings is made from 16,000 old jeans. The hardwood parquet floor was recycled. The cable ducts were reused from demolition, refit and transformation projects.
After looking at all this, we went outside to look at the facade, which is remountable and covered with plant modules. Finally, we went outside, taking the stairs, to the roof terrace and roof garden which are equipped with water storage and perennial plants. The tour ended where it started namely at the Rooftop bar.
After this, there was an opportunity for enthusiasts to take a walk through the Zuidas area with some explanation at prominent spots. The walk ended at the Zuidas information centre where a model of the entire area and its surroundings can be seen. Here people could get an impression of what this part of Amsterdam will look like in the (near) future.
Description
The North Holland Region of KIVI cordially invites you to the excursion to the Circl pavilion on the Zuidas in Amsterdam.
Circular building
Circularity goes beyond sustainability. With sustainability, the emphasis is often on lower energy consumption. With circular construction, the emphasis is on reusing raw materials, materials and building elements.
The Dutch government's ambition is to use 50% fewer primary raw materials by 2030 and to have the Dutch economy run entirely on reusable raw materials by 2050. For several reasons, this will be a major challenge.
Circl
Circl is the name of the new circular hotspot and meetingplace on the Zuidas. The building has a meeting centre, restaurant and rooftop bar.
With the construction of Circl, the circular pavilion, ABN AMRO has experienced in practice what it is like to build circularly. ABN AMRO owns but not everything in the building. All kinds of experiments are running but not everything is ready for the market yet.
The architecture is also focused on life extension in both the interior and exterior. For instance, the building has a large, free height that can serve multiple purposes and is maximally demountable, and the insulation material in the ceilings is made from old jeans. The interior is also a circular experiment.
