Over 30 listeners managed to captivate Mr Gerard Burema with a presentation on the study for a new type of lifeboat with all possible features of today and perhaps room for those of tomorrow. Meanwhile, that whole process has been completed. It involved collaboration with De Vries Lentsch Scheepsontwerpers, TU Delft and Damen Shipyards. The study was made possible by a donation from Insurance Company 1816. This became the type designation of the new design. The first ship is ready and moored in the port of IJmuiden. Practical tests should now prove that the assumptions made in the preliminary study are correct. The aluminium hull is glued to the plastic superstructure. That connection is also the subject of extensive tests. Navigation and communication are as up to date as possible. The axe bow of the prow should start dampening the large g-forces. The participants' contribution was for the sandwich lunch and drinks. The amount was not entirely needed, so the excess was donated to KNRM, to the applause of the participants.
