In restaurant DE MOLENPLAS (on the Ringvaart in Haarlem), Mr J.T.(Ko) Blok, former chairman of ERA Contour(formerly ERA Bouw) held the New Year's speech.
In it, he made it clear that housing construction underwent a major change after the Second World War, from supply orientation (housing shortage) to demand orientation, or in other words from quantity via quality to target groups, lifestyles, consumer as comaker.
In a "bad" neighbourhood/city, you need to entice future home buyers of a higher segment property to buy. With these residents, the neighbourhood/city can/will reach a "higher" level. Examples mentioned included De Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam and Riedijkshaven in Dordrecht, as well as the renewal of the F-neighbourhood in Amsterdam ZO.
For the future of Urban Housing Policy, Ko Blok sees: Differentiated population structure, Quality versus quantity, Attractive sustainable living environments and high supply requirements. After a lively and interesting discussion including on The Blue City, the meeting closed at 3pm. There were 28 participants.
