On 18 March 2015, 30 members of Region North Holland (the maximum number) visited the Crown van Gelder company in Velsen Noord. Host Ad Sies, sales and business development manager explained what is going to be the significance of professional ink-jet printing. Since today almost all text and "sheet metal" is offered digitally, books, for example, can be printed at the most practical location, even if it is in a far-off foreign country.

Among many other possibilities, the possibility of personalised advertising mailing also arises. Great cost savings can be made compared to offset work. The latter in particular is very labour-intensive. Crown van Gelder focuses on manufacturing the right paper for this ink-jet industry, often in collaboration with companies such as Canon and HP, the suppliers of both the ink and the printing line.

The presentation was followed by a tour of the company in small groups, for many an eye-opener regarding paper manufacturing.

Description

In an international playing field, Crown Van Gelder is a medium-sized
paper mill with 2 paper machines. They target an international and
increasingly global market for paper specialities with a focus on industrial inkjet printing, labels and packaging. Clearly, the role of paper in daily life is changing significantly due to the internet, social media and the speed of change and transparency we experience every day. Close contact with the market where new demand comes from and rapid development of new products with new added value is therefore crucial. Dialogue with customers is of course central, but close contact with press builders, retailers and publishers
is crucial for fast and targeted development. The technological
complexity of the plant, machinery and products are often in
contrast with the perception of the simplicity of paper.
A presentation will address which trends and expectations exist
in the market and how Crown Van Gelder is meeting them, both technologically
and commercially. A guided tour will show the production process of paper from
A to Z. Finally, there will be an opportunity to discuss the new role of paper
