Royal van Lent Feadship B.V.
KIVI North Holland excursion ROYAL van LENT - KAAGEILAND on 20 April 2016.
There was a lot of interest in the excursion; there were 25 KIVI member spots to be given away; with a reserve list we managed to get all interested members to participate in this special excursion.
After a welcome at 16.00 hr, board member Dick van Lent gave an explanation of the van Lent family business, whose history goes back to 1849. The birth of FEADSHIP, which stands for First Association of Dutch Shipbuilders, was a collaboration in 1949 between Voogt naval architects (Haarlem), Royal De Vries shipbuilding (Aalsmeer) and Royal van Lent. The start of the unique world-renowned product 'FEADSHIPs'. A motor yacht shipbuilding line that started with vessels of approx. 45 metres but quickly grew to 60 metres plus due to success and customer demand. Meanwhile, Royal van Lent can count itself one of the four leading shipbuilders in the world where super yachts of 100 metres plus are built. All according to the quality standard 'FEADSHIP' and the client's wishes; made with traditional Dutch shipbuilding craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology. Each FEADSHIP is unique and receives design, specification, colour, interior and propulsion according to the owner's wishes. After the very animated explanation by Dick van LENT, a tour was made through the four construction halls of the shipyard where the two ships of about 70 metres under construction were viewed.
The many questions during Mr van Lent's explanation as well as the impressive ships in the shipyard meant that the planned end time of 17.30 was far exceeded. The beautiful weather ensured that the 11 participants at the KIVI get-together had a very pleasant time on the terrace at Tante Kee and could look back on a successful visit to Royal van Lent on Kaageiland.
