Visit and lecture NZH Transport Museum
17 KIVI members, considerably fewer than usual at a pre-Corona region meeting, were received, looked after, addressed and shown around in a particularly enthusiastic manner at a lecture on and visit to the NZH Transport Museum in Haarlem.
The Noord-Zuid-Hollandsche Stoomtramweg-Maatschappij (NZHSTM), later Noord-Zuid-Hollandse Vervoer-Maatschappij (NZH VM) is a former public transport company founded in Hillegom on 2 June 1880. The company changed its name several times and finally merged into Connexxion in 1999. As a direct continuation of NZH, Connexxion was able to celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2006.
The NZH Transport Museum is a foundation that aims to preserve driving and stationary heritage. The museum runs entirely on volunteers and originated in 1981 when the NZH celebrated its 100th anniversary, initially with the idea of establishing a company museum. This was later turned into a transport museum, focusing on city and regional transport operated in the north-west of the Netherlands (above the line The Hague - Voorburg - Leiden - Utrecht - Amsterdam) from 1878 onwards, excluding city transport in Amsterdam and The Hague.
Originally, the museum was located on the NZH's garage site on Leidsevaart in Haarlem. As this site was sold for housing development, the museum moved to its current home in the Waarderpolder in 2015.
The museum houses 4 trams (the oldest is from 1896) and 11 buses that previously operated with the NZH or other transport companies in this part of the Netherlands. Most of the buses are roadworthy and regularly used for rides with the public. At the museum, these vehicles are well maintained and restored. The restoration of a 1904 tram motor coach will be completed in a few years. In 2019, the restoration of a 1972 DAF regional bus (the only surviving bus of the first series of all-Dutch-made buses) will be completed.
In addition, the museum houses a permanent exhibition and holds temporary exhibitions dedicated to one topic each year - currently as part of 75 years of liberation 'Just before, during and just after World WarII '.
The board of KIVI Region North Holland - subject to any negative corona developments - has the pleasure of inviting you to attend a lecture on and visit to the NZH Transport Museum(https://www.nzh-vervoermuseum.nl/)

Corona protocol
To ensure the health of us all, we strictly adhere to RIVM guidelines.
The most important of these is, of course, keeping our distance from each other. In the room where we are having lunch and listening to the presentation, a distance of 1.5 metres allows 35 seats.
The total number of visitors is therefore limited to 35 people.
You will only be admitted if you have registered in advance via the KIVI website.
A special route has been set out in the museum so that a safe distance can be maintained. Additional tour guides will be present to keep everything under control and answer your questions.
Last but not least, hygiene rules apply:
- stay home in case of symptoms such as a nasal cold, cough, sore throat or fever
- wash your hands regularly
- cough and sneeze into your elbow
