The roots of today's global company Vopak go back to the year 1600. It was a storage company for tea and coffee. Since 1900, storage has consisted of oil, gas and chemicals. The billion-dollar company operates on all continents.

In the Netherlands, Vopak's centre of gravity is in Rotterdam. Other locations are: Amsterdam, Vlissingen and Delfzijl.

A strategic amount of gas and oil is stored in Delfzijl on behalf of the Dutch government. Amsterdam has 41 tanks with a total storage capacity of 1.2 million m3 (currently 90% petrol and 10% diesel). The products are exclusively unloaded from and loaded into ships. The new plant has been in operation for 3 years and runs fully automatically via control rooms. Safety and the environment are of paramount importance. All fumes are collected. During the captivating presentation by ir Bastiaan Schepers, many questions were raised, leading to a lively discussion. This was followed by a tour of the company.

The list of participants was well oversubscribed (max. 30 participants). Too bad 6 participants did not show up.
