Waterland Terminal and presentation
After a good and pleasant lunch at La Cantina; Hornweg 48 Amsterdam, the lecture and excursion was held by René Finson.
Waterland Terminal became part of VCK Holding (turnover Euro 300 mln, 700 employees) in two steps (2003 and 2007). VCK, founded in 1915 with roots from the VOC era.
Waterland Terminal, with 80 employees built the Netherlands' first All Weather Terminal in 1998, now has 3 terminals and has started construction of No 4.
At the All Weather Terminal, a ship (max. 10,000 tonnes) can be unloaded or loaded dry in a warehouse. The cargo is placed directly into a barge, or with forklifts into a train, truck or storage. Products include steel, paper pulp and zinc.
The spacious site was very orderly and efficiently laid out.
There were 27 participants.
Description
The company Verenigd Cargadoorskantoor (VCK) was founded in 1915 and started with ship chartering focused on Northern Europe. In the 1950s, VCK also became active as a business travel agent and air freight forwarder.
Partly due to the construction of the covered Waterland Terminal and takeovers after 2000, VCK gained a strong position in the market.
Mr Rene Finson of Waterland Terminal B.V. will give a lecture on, among other things, the organisation and working methods of VCK logistics. This will be followed by a visit to the Waterland Terminal. (covered transhipment place for ships)
