Description

To the east of the city of Groningen stands Attero's combined waste separation and fermentation plant. Here, residual waste from almost the entire province of Groningen is processed. In the separation plant, metals, substitute fuels and organic waste (organic wet fraction) are extracted from the waste. A specially developed separation plant extracts plastic packaging for recycling. After separating the residual waste, the organic waste undergoes washing and screening and is then pumped to the four digestion reactors. Here, bacteria convert the organic materials into biogas. A gas bulb keeps the gas at a constant pressure. Since 2010, we have been upgrading the gas to natural gas quality on site. The gas is fed into the natural gas grid as green gas. The site's wastewater is treated in the company's own water treatment plant. The digested material remaining after the digestion process is processed at the waste-to-energy plant in Wijster.
