Limburg excursion
Description
Rendac BV is a company that has been processing animal residues and carcasses for more than 70 years. Its activities consist of collecting, processing and destroying (or having processed) to create safe and usable fuels for coal power plants and cement kilns. Air-quality treatment and wastewater purification occupy a prominent place at Rendac.
Rijkswaterstaat Limburg built Rijksweg 73 Zuid (Venlo-St. Joost) between 2003 and 2007 through a laborious decision-making process. The balancing act between nature and accessibility aspects was very complex. The Council of State and the Lower House considered the issue in 2002. The route includes 2 tunnels: the Roertunnel is 2450 metres long and the largest land tunnel in Roermond East and the tunnel(400 metres long) near Swalmen. In 2008, the opening was greatly delayed due to problems with the 50 installed safety systems. Only later in 2009 were these problems adequately resolved and the tunnels opened to traffic in full. However, both tunnels remain a critical component in the use phase. one cause is the clearance height of 4.10 metres and the heavy freight traffic through the tunnels.

07:00: pick up participants at Lichtmis/Koperen Hoogte
07:15: departure by coach or minibus) to Rendac BV in Son.
08:30: participants from origins other than North get on at Carpool Arnhem North A12/N784 (at junction A12/A50 "Waterberg".
09:45 - 12:15: company visit Rendac BV. (presentation, discussion and tour)
12:30 - 13:30 transfer to Rijkswaterstaat, Wegendistrict St. Joost.13:30: Reception at the Project Organisation building (former Kadaster building) Bredeweg 239, 6043 GA Roermond.
13:30 - 14:30: Lunch and presentation tunnels A73. Lunch will be offered to you (in principle).
14:30 - 15:30: Tour of the tunnel route of the tunnels in the A73.
15:30 - 16:00: Visit to the service building in the middle of the Roertunnel.
approx. 16:45 - 17:30 transfer to Cuijk.
17:45 - 19:00 joint dinner and networking in Cuijk.
19:00 - approx. 20:45 return journey to Hoogeveen Oost. (with another disembarkation option at Carpool Arnhem Noord A12/N784)
