HIGH- VALUE RECYCLING OF TEXTIEL:
How to do it and get it accepted
Enschede
How do you recycle jeans? by Anton Luiken, co-founder Texperium:
At the open innovation centre Texperium in Haaksbergen, many ways of high-value textile recycling are being researched with participating companies. What are the options of textile recycling? Why is textile fiberisation almost always an option? How does, or should, the recycling chain work? And how does this work for jeans?
SaXcell 100% extracted from cotton waste by Theresia Grevinga, lecturer/researcher Saxion:
Saxion invention SaXcell represents an international breakthrough in the fashion world. Researchers at the Saxion lectureship Smart Functional Materials in Enschede have succeeded in developing a yarn that is 100% extracted from cotton waste. Until now, no well-working technique was available to recycle old clothing into a high-quality raw material. They recently succeeded in weaving a cloth from SaXcell. How do they pull this off?
Great thinking, but will consumers accept this? by Erik Goselink, Saxion researcher:
You'll probably accept a dustpan and brush made of recycled plastic, but will you accept a colander or a toothbrush? Saxion lectureship Industrial Design interviewed 30 consumers to find out their motivations. Should recycled plastic look like virgin material or do they expect a 'recycled' look? What level of contamination is still acceptable and how can you mask this?
