The 25th of September, we organise our first event in the new academic year,
together with the youngest association of the UT: sUsTain.

For English, see below!
On Wednesday 25 September, another KIVI Innovation Drink is scheduled, this time in the UT's new Technohal. A great opportunity to take a look at this beautifully renovated building (vh Langezijds).
The first presentation will be given by Daniël Poolen, sustainability project coordinator at KIVI. Within the world of sustainability, plastic (pollution) has a special place in his heart. For years, he worked for environmental organisations such as WWF and the Plastic Soup Foundation, as a journalist on television programmes and as an entrepreneur on our plastic problem. Within KIVI, he involves members with a heart for society and the environment in KIVI Future Society projects. The aim is to use members' collective knowledge to solve social problems. Plastic plays an important role in this.
The second presentation will be given by Erik de Groot, co-founder of Iron Roots.
Iron Roots' mission is to create a plastic-free clothing industry and uses hemp, eucalyptus and organic cotton for their sportswear. The three founders of Iron Roots found it distressing that almost all sportswear is made of plastic, and thought: This can and should be better! This is because polyester shirts are not only made from non-renewable resources, but also cause huge pollution from microfibres, which are released during washing. After a long search and testing, they ended up with hemp, which, besides being a sustainable alternative to polyester, also has some fine properties. For instance, hemp cannot become static and is naturally anti-bacterial, reducing the release of unpleasant odours during exercise.
In between, a short workshop will take place in which everyone can participate.
Naturally, drinks will be provided after the presentations and there will be ample opportunity to chat with the speakers and other participants.

Wednesday the 25th of September, we are organising another KIVI Innovation Drink, in the brand new Technohal of the UT. A wonderful opportunity to take a look at this beautifully renovated building, which was previously called 'Langezijds'.
The first presentation will be given by Daniel Poolen, chief sustainability at KIVI, the Royal Netherlands Society for Engineers.
Within the world of sustainability, plastic has a special place in his heart. For years, he worked for environmental organisations such as the WWF and the Plastic Soup Foundation.
He also worked as a journalist for television programs, and as an entrepreneur to solve our plastic problem.
Within KIVI, he connects members with a heart for our society and the envirnoment, through the KIVI Future Society projects.
The goal of these projects is to solve societal problems by bringing together the collective knowledge of our members. Plastic has a major role in the current projects.
The second presenter will be Erik de Groot, co-founder of Iron Roots.
Iron Roots' mission is to create a plastic-free fashion industry, by using hemp, eucalyptus and organic cotton as materials for their athlectic apparel.
Their three founders were not really pleased by the current state of sports clothing: almost everything is plastic.
They thought they could, and should, do better, since polyester shirts are not only created by non-renewable materials,
they also cause pollution of our environment by releasing microplastics everytime they are washed.
In between there is a short workshop in which everyone can participate.
As a KIVI Innovation Drink is not complete without a drink, we will make sure there are drinks and bites after the presentations. There will be plenty of time to meet and talk to our speakers and other attendees.
