Cartesius Institute lecture
Description
Will you still hear cars driving in 2020?
Not if it's up to the Cartesius Institute.
High-tech tours on the Wadden Sea, electric tuktuks, multimedia applications for medics. At first glance, these seem to have nothing in common. Yet they all have one common denominator: sustainable innovations. And yes, as Loesje said: 'especially the word expensive stands out so much'. But what is sustainability or sustainable business really about? It is also called corporate social responsibility where the three M's are central: people, environment and society. With global warming caused by too much CO2 emissions, more and more people are starting to think about how to act sustainably. This can be on a large scale, but also at your own company.
The Cartesius Institute works with researchers and professors from the three Universities of Technology on sustainable innovations. The Institute offers research, expertise and knowledge exchange to inventive entrepreneurs, policymakers and social organisations in the Northern Netherlands. Main objectives are to contribute to the economic developments in this area and to stimulate social returns.
The North is the location for the Cartesius Institute because the ambitions of the provincial government coupled with the idiosyncratic innovative strength of Fryske entrepreneurs offer a wonderful breeding ground for applied scientific research. In addition, the Northern provinces offer a wonderful testing ground; the ambitions to tap into new energy and actually make it applicable are preconditions for us to start up great projects.
