Ny Bosma Zathe is a practical centre for research and knowledge transfer in the field of dairy farming for the three Northern provinces. As a modern dairy farm with over 100 hectares of land and 165 dairy cows, it conducts research in the field of innovations in livestock farming, (animal nutrition, fodder crop production, fertilisation), but also in the field of agricultural nature management (green meadows and meadow bird management) and research is conducted into the production of green energy through manure fermentation. Part of the gas is used to heat a residential area under construction Techum.
Praktijkcentrum Ny Bosma Zathe has a long track record: the company has been conducting research for dairy farming since 1944. At the end of 2000, they moved into a new location in the Boksumerpolder under the Leeuwarden smoke. Praktijkcentrum Ny Bosma Zathe is the northernmost location of the Praktijkonderzoek, part of Wageningen UR's Animal Sciences Group. Ny Bosma Zathe conducts research into sustainable solutions in daily operations for the benefit of the Dutch livestock industry.
As a dairy farm, a milk quota of 1,468,000 kg has been realised with 165 dairy cattle since 2005. Ny Bosma Zathe has access to 100 ha of heavy clay soil We have an automatic milking system for 100 cows. In the centre of the barn is the feed trial barn, equipped with 60 individual feed troughs and an open tandem milking parlour. At Ny Bosma Zathe, wastewater is cleaned and reused. Rainwater is collected and used as drinking water for the cows.
Praktijkcentrum Ny Bosma Zathe is not only a research facility but also a knowledge provider. The research depends on market demand and is diverse in nature. Our products are many and varied. In addition to milk, the dairy farm also supplies meat. We also produce green energy from manure and contribute to nature through agricultural nature management. Since 2005, our farm has also been the meadow bird centre for the region.
