Description

Energy transition: keeping the lights on at a reasonable price
There is a lot of talk about the energy transition. The goals to become more sustainable don't lie. But can this be done and will we keep the lights on? Germany and Denmark are often seen as great examples. So what exactly are the differences with the Dutch situation and why do negative prices suddenly appear and do our coal-fired power plants just keep running while there are much cleaner solutions? TenneT has done a lot of research in recent years into the different market designs and their impact on prices and costs. This shows that there are many differences and that we cannot just let the energy transition happen if we want to keep it reliable and affordable.

Klaas Hommes of TenneT will discuss market design, the pillars of the current market and the developments we will face.
