SCA Hygiene Products BV in Hoogezand is part of the SCA Group. Originally a Swedish company with its headquarters in Stockholm, it currently employs over 50,000 people in more than 50 countries. For all of SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget), there are three core values: respect, responsibility and excellence. These are reflected in the organisation as:
- Empowerment, translated as 'putting responsibility as close to the execution as possible' and
- Teambased worksystems (TBWS) which is translated as 'working together while using jointly agreed working methods, systems and clear consultation structures.'
Since 1993, the company has been successfully organised into self-managing teams. SCA actively encourages the personal development of its employees and supports this by offering new challenges and a multitude of education and training courses.

The business group to which SCA Hoogezand belongs is called Personal Care and - as the name suggests - deals with people's personal hygiene. It produces incontinence materials and baby nappies. Well-known brands include TENA Lady, TENA Pants and Libero Up & Go. Besides three production units, several support units and departments contribute to the end result: Logistics, Plant Support, Controlling, Human Resources and QRESH (Quality, Risk-management, Environment, Safety, Health).
Besides the high level of commitment, other success factors are the flexibility, the multi-deployability and the high level of knowledge of the employees. As already mentioned, a lot of attention goes to developing people (at individual and team level) and therefore also to the level of organisational development. Independence and continuous improvement are important spearheads within the organisation. Hoogezand currently employs over 700 people.
