The area development Steenwijk - Eeserwold is a very multifaceted project. In principle, it involves the redevelopment of a sand extraction area. The area size is 200 ha. The primary functions in the area are living, working and recreation. There is 60 ha of water area. Part of the area is being sustainably developed as a business park in cooperation with UR Cool and there is LED lighting. The cold water from the sand extraction well cools the offices and buildings on the business park. Moreover, this site has the Quality Mark for Safe Entrepreneurship. Park management and security are provided in an innovative way using high-quality technology.
In addition to the business park, part of the area is designated for "living". Eeserwold Wonen combines landscaping and high-quality architecture with estate living. This involves partly waterfront living and partly estate living. The design and construction has a classical philosophy combined with innovative techniques. Apart from living, the area also has nature functions. There is an ecological zone and a retention area plus a fish passage. Accessibility is partly guaranteed by a recreational cycle path. A future golf course is also planned plus temporary nature.
In short, enough interesting things for any engineering discipline to take note of. That is why this activity is not to be missed.

During the activity, we will also take a closer look at the sustainable cooling facility for the business park. This is a collaboration between Unica Installatietechniek and Roelofs. It saves 75 to 90% on the energy costs of the business park. It also reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90%. A link has been provided with the ECO2DC data centre. The cooling facility has been operational since 2010 and the first companies are already using UR Cool.

During the activity, there will be a short visit to UR Cool. We will also visit the fish ladder as an ecological facility. These visits will be preceded by some presentations by colleagues from the Roelofs Group. There will be ample opportunity for questions and discussion and the activity will end with a drink at the Roelofsgroep regional office in the Eeserwold business park.
