Visit City Hall Deventer
Description
Deventer's acclaimed new city hall, designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, totals 24,000 m2 and features various architectural styles. It combines nearly 400-year-old historical national monuments with state-of-the-art new construction. Besides the main Binnenhof, the central hall that houses all public functions, there is also a historic Buitenhof around the former Mayor's House. Once inside, visitors are surprised by the sophisticated way old and new blend together as a matter of course. What stands out are the high ceilings and the numerous windows beautifully decorated with fingerprints of 2,264 Deventen citizens executed in aluminium.
In addition to its architectural qualities, this new city hall also sets new standards in terms of sustainability. The common thread here is that natural resources have been used as much as possible. The sun, rainwater and water from the river IJssel will take care of that. Plenty of daylight, 800 m2 of solar panels and rainwater for flushing the toilets are part of this. In addition, IJssel water is used as a natural source for sustainable heating and cooling of the building. The river water comes via a specially constructed pipeline from the IJssel to the city hall, after which heat pumps are used to exchange heat as required.
After a technical introduction by Jan Sier of Hiensch Engineering, responsible for the installation, we will split into two groups for a tour of the building. In doing so, we will have access to the technical areas, where Jan Sier will explain a few things.
