Visit Prison Museum and AGM
Description
> On 18 May 1975, the first Prison Museum in Veenhuizen was opened in an old concrete shed on the Hoofdweg in Veenhuizen. It came about thanks to the collecting passion and efforts of its founder, Mr Standhart. Thirty years later, the new National Prison Museum opened its doors in a fully restored convict asylum built in 1823. The museum has since grown into a professional organisation with 24 staff, around 90 volunteers and an active Friends' Association. In 2007, it was voted the best historical museum in the Netherlands and in 2009 it attracted a record number of over 100,000 visitors.
> Have you ever stood at the pillory? Seen the inside of a cell? Sitting in the judge's chair? You can do it all at the Prison Museum. Crime and punishment are of all times, but the way we punish has changed a lot over the centuries. Here you will discover everything about crime and punishment in the Netherlands from 1600 to the present day. The museum is located in one of the old compulsory institutions built by the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid in Veenhuizen in 1823 for beggars and vagrants. Veenhuizen is a special village with a wonderful history, more than a hundred national monuments and five prisons that are still in use.
The Board of KIVINIRIA Noord would like to invite you to the ALV on 1 March 2011. To give this evening an extra cachet, we have chosen the location of the prison museum. For enthusiasts, it will also be possible to visit the museum from the inside. Of course, as a member of Region North, you are also welcome to attend the ALV only.
