Description

REDstack B.V. is Wetsus' first spin-off company and focuses on the development, upscaling and marketing of RED technology.

REDstack is an amalgamation of RED Reverse electro-dialysis) and stack, an accumulation of membranes and electrodes.

By means of reverse electro-dialysis (RED) process, electricity is obtained from bringing fresh and salt water into contact by means of ion-selective membranes.
When 1 m3/s of river water is mixed with seawater using a RED installation, theoretically about 1MW of sustainable electricity can be obtained from this.
Theoretically, about 1.4-2.6 TW worldwide and about 3 GW in the Netherlands can be obtained.

Blue Energy is up and running!!! On 29 July 2013, construction of the Blue Energy pilot plant began at Breezanddijk (Afsluitdijk). The first technical act was the laying of the foundation of the building in which the installation will be located. This literally shows the "first shovels" on the road to extracting energy from fresh and salt water: Blue Energy.
REDstack cooperates intensively with universities, research institutes and other companies. Partners include; Wetsus, ESCO-Salt, FUJIFILM B.V., NHL (Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden), Alliander N.V., KEMA.
