On Saturday 12 April, you are invited to visit the conversion of the ss Rotterdam into a hotel. This ship is currently being converted into a hotel in Wilhelmshaven and is expected to open in Rotterdam this autumn. The renovation in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, will cost a total of €140m. As an icon of post-war Rotterdam, the Rotterdam will offer 289 hotel rooms, café-restaurants and a conference and training centre. Many hundreds of people will find work on the Rotterdam, which expects 600,000 visitors.

SS ROTTERDAM AS CHANCE PACT ON SOUTH
As a co-producer of a successful city, Woonbron is firmly convinced that housing should be well coordinated with learning, working and care. In the Pact on South, Woonbron has translated this conviction into the purchase of the ss Rotterdam. This former cruise ship of the Holland America Line will soon bring together the four elements of living, learning, working and recreation. The ship's eventual berth is the Maashaven, at the head of Katendrecht in Rotterdam.

SOCIAL VALUE
The arrival of the ship has great social value. This is reflected in several areas. The increase in value created in the Katendrecht neighbourhood; the arrival of the SS Rotterdam will give a positive impulse to entrepreneurs and residents who want to settle or stay in Katendrecht. In addition, the ship provides space for more than 400 training places where students can learn in practice. Opportunities for short-stay and foyer accommodation in the city of Rotterdam will also increase considerably as a result of this project. The arrival of the ss Rotterdam also brings a lot of employment opportunities. Both as a result of partner activities (hotel, conferences, events, etc.) and the flow of visitors the ship can expect in the coming years. The ss Rotterdam as opportunity map is also presented in the annual programme of Pact on Zuid this week.

INVESTMENT
The ss Rotterdam has been placed in Rederij De Rotterdam BV, a subsidiary of Woonbron, to shield risks from the housing corporation. The project is complex and has a high risk profile with the aim of achieving a balanced operation. This takes into account an unprofitable top that is proportional to the social added value. The investment now amounts to at least a volume of €140 million. A huge boost for the South's focus areas.
The ship is currently undergoing a very thorough restoration in Wilhelmshaven in line with the partners' wishes for its operation. Hard work is being done to have the ship come to Rotterdam in the summer and start operating around September.

SPIN OFF SS ROTTERDAM AS CHANCE PACT ON ZUID

EDUCATION
The ss Rotterdam offers context-rich apprenticeships that challenge young people to complete their studies. There is expected to be room for some 475 training places annually.

TOURISM
Spido will provide the tourist part of the ss Rotterdam. This will open up a market of 1,200 (inter)national tour operators. Spido contractually assumes that they will bring 250,000 visitors a year per ship to the ss Rotterdam (They have purchased a new ship for this purpose). Besides individual visitors, another 350,000 are expected to be received as part of conferences, hotel visits, theatre and events.

ICOON, PROUD
The ss Rotterdam depicts much of Rotterdam's glorious maritime, shipping past. Without exaggeration, the ship is billed as a national cultural maritime heritage. Partly because of the ship's social and emotional attachment, it will become an important Rotterdam landmark. Next to the Erasmus Bridge, the ship is expected to become Rotterdam's most photographed object.

EMPLOYMENT
The number of direct FTEs at De Rotterdam BV and its partners (hotel, conferences, events, etc.) is 180.
The number of indirect jobs that will also be created through extra work for laundries, maintenance companies, etc., is 220.

KATENDRECHT
It is undisputed that the arrival of the S.S. Rotterdam on Katendrecht will give a positive impulse to entrepreneurs and residents who want to settle (or stay) on Katendrecht.
Through the RBA (Result-Bringing Action) methodology, financed by the Nieuwe Unie, the Municipality and the SS Rotterdam, the residents of Katendrecht will be involved in the developments on Katendrecht in social, economic and other respects.

HOUSING
Short-stay housing (the social function of the Woonhotel) and foyer housing (in the live-learn-work chain) will take place on board.
