On 9 October 2014, the third edition of Women in Science was organised by NVI, FFNT and KIVI Students Twente. It was an afternoon organised for and by women, this time with the theme: Inspiration for your career.

The 40 participants heard pitches from two very inspiring women: Karianne Lindenhovius - UMC, also elected Engineer of the Year 2014, and Miriam Luizink - director of strategic business development at UT. Afterwards, it was time for one half of the group for the discussion dinner while the other half got to work on the workshop 'Pro-active and your career' by Nienke van der Haak. After an hour, the groups were switched.

After dinner and the workshop, it was time for drinks where everyone had the opportunity to expand her network and inspire each other!

We would like to thank PANalytical, Siemens, The Chain Company and Powered by Twente for their contribution. We would also like to thank Karianne and Miriam, and of course Nienke, for the inspiring workshop that really got the participants moving. Finally, we thank Marieke Bosman, who captured this fantastic day.

Thank you for coming and hopefully until next year!

Description

KIVI Students Twente, in cooperation with the Network of Female Engineers and the Female Faculty Network Twente (FFNT), is organising this successful event for the third time.

The aim of this activity is to bring female students, academics and businesswomen into contact with each other and to inspire them to get the best out of themselves. Because 'the best' is different for everyone, there are speakers from both business and academia.

The main speakers this time are:

Ir. Karianne Lindenhovius, UMC - Engineer of the Year 2014
Ir. Miriam Luizink, UT - Director of Strategic Business Development

There will also be an interactive workshop given by Nienke van der Haak: 'Pro-Activity and your career'.

Especially for ambitious women who want to give themselves that extra push.
Pro-activity means taking responsibility for your own life. And therefore also for your career. It means making choices, creating opportunities, sometimes daring to say no and sometimes saying YES!

Sounds wonderful, but not always easy. Everyone is sometimes guided by what someone else says is good for you. You sometimes postpone a decision or accept a job or salary that is not quite in line with what you really want. How nice it would be if you actually took a position: that you could powerfully put your ambition into practice, that you determine what happens, that you take the initiative and that you no longer wait for that ideal job to come to you, but create it yourself!

That is what pro-activity can do. Nienke will take you through what pro-activity can do for you and your career: and what step you can already take tomorrow to take a step in the direction you choose
