In cooperation with the contact person of Hogeschool, this activity was organised in the building of Hogeschool Arnhem as a small symposium where three expert parties explained the state of the art in the field of energy storage in batteries.
Due to the involvement of speakers from three organisations: DNV-KEMA Energy & sustainability, from Alliander - Liander and from SOPRA, in addition to the 42 KIVINIRIA participants, a number of participants from those organisations and from the college were also present. This enhanced the liveliness of the discussion and variety in the questions posed, allowing for in-depth discussions on application, capacity and further development of the battery in relation to the storage issues required in the course towards the application of renewable energy.

The programme we followed can of course be revisited on the activity pages on 18 December 2012, you can see the page here.

Description

On Tuesday 18 December from 14:00, the SOPRA project team invites you to an informative afternoon on developments in energy storage for (stand-alone) distribution networks. SOPRA stands for Sustainable Off-grid Power station for Rural Application

The following presentations will be given this afternoon:
*Jasper Groenewegen, DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability, presents the developments within energy storage technologies with a focus on the developments in Li-ion and lead-acid batteries for grid-connected storage application.
*Jan Bozelie, Alliander - Liander, presents how a distribution network operator can deal with storage, how storage can be valuable for both the operator and the user and what challenges arise in doing so.
*Evert Raaijen, Alfen (former Exendis), presents the SOPRA system and the results obtained with two test setups (at the HAN SOPRA setup and with a mobile SOPRA container) with different renewable energy sources in a smart grid setup.
