New uses for sugar
Description
Company visit with presentations at SuikerUnie.
Suiker Unie develops, produces and markets sugar and sugar specialities. Its sugar factories in Dinteloord, Vierverlaten and Anklam (north-east Germany) are among the most modern in the world. As are the factories in Puttershoek and Roosendaal that produce dry and liquid sugar specialities. The head office is in Dinteloord.
As a biomass supplier, Suiker Unie is at the beginning of the biobased production chain. Biobased economy means far-reaching cooperation between the various sectors in that production chain. The entire beet plant is a source of biomass and this in turn offers huge opportunities for products other than sugar.
Suiker Unie has developed a master plan to prepare for the end of the sugar market regime in 2017. This plan includes investments in process automation and energy reduction.
During your visit to Suiker Unie, you will get to see the production process "From beet to sugar" in the factory. Prior to this tour, you will receive a presentation on "Suiker Unie's challenges" in which you will be told a bit about biobased economy, the disappearance of the sugar market organisation and the adjustments that are necessary for this.
