Description

Rabobank Nederland's new administrative centre is being built in the centre of Utrecht. Some 3,300 employees will be working in the new building by mid-2010. The 105-metre high tower will be one of the most sustainable office buildings in the Netherlands and will have an open appearance through the use of transparent materials. For example, the tower will have a double glass façade that enhances its semi-public character and interaction with the surroundings. The new building will incorporate numerous innovative and energy-efficient measures; the energy performance coefficient of the tower is 0.66.

A large underground split-level car park of 4,000 m² will also be built between the existing office buildings and right next to the high-rise tower. The construction pit for the parking garage is 125 metres long and 32 metres wide. The foundations for the car park will be poured using underwater concrete at a depth of 15 metres.

A new way of working will be used in the building. This changes the functionality of the office from workplace more to an important meeting place. This is also expressed in the plinth of the new building where meeting, conferencing and eating come together. In the lecture, architectural firm Kraaijvanger.Urbis will explain the design and consultancy firm ABT will provide an explanation of the structural principles. An excursion to the construction site in Utrecht will be organised in 2009.
