New Year's reception and presentation (Best)
Description
* Note: 19:30-20:00 For new members, the meeting starts half an hour earlier with an introduction to the board. Last year, we welcomed over 100 new members in Region South. The board would like to welcome you in the new year at the traditional New Year's reception and invites you for a closer acquaintance on this evening. In the half-hour preceding the reception, you can meet the presidents of the region and professional groups and get an insight into what the association can offer you in the region. Following this introductory meeting, we can then take part in the New Year's meeting together.
* New Year's Reception: 20:00 to 22:00
A good start to the new year for Region South, where members can meet, catch up and meet new members. All over snacks and drinks. The chairman briefly looks back on the past year and focuses on new initiatives and activities.
During the meeting, Paula van Gestel will give a presentation on the subject of Historical Cartography. She was recently appointed Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau for her voluntary work for the Historical Cartography research group. This research group is part of the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University.
Historical Cartography is a small unique but fragile field. Explokart's research, of which Paula van Gestel is coordinator, project leader, final editor and secretary, is internationally highly regarded and of great significance for our national heritage. Unfortunately, it does not fit within the faculty's research spearheads and therefore has insufficient earning power, but thanks in part to Paula's volunteer efforts, the research has nevertheless been able to flourish. She took all the organisational and administrative work off the researchers' hands so that they could focus entirely on the research itself.
In addition, she is the driving force behind the 'Utrecht Studies in the History of Cartography' book series. This monumental series on historical Dutch maps and globes now comprises thirteen volumes of 500-700 pages each and an average of 600 illustrations. This unlocks an important piece of hidden Dutch cultural heritage. Ten more volumes are in preparation. She is also co-founder of the Cartographiae Historicae Cathedra foundation. This foundation aims to re-establish a special chair in historical cartography.
Our New Year's reception is a meeting with presentation that you should especially bring your partner or guest.
