Shale gas Fact and Fiction
Description
Shale gas is keeping quite a stir, especially in the south of the country. And that while this is a gas field development hardly different from an ordinary gas field development as the north of our country has known it. This southern perception was caused by some shoddy drilling practices in the United States, about which a biased film was made that in turn was grist for the mill of environmentalists.
Mr A.A. Barendregt is a retired petroleum engineer. After studying Physics in Delft, he worked in the petroleum industry his entire working life (36 years), mainly in the field of oil and gas extraction. That activity took him and his family not only to several locations in the Netherlands, but also to several countries in Europe and Southeast Asia. Consultancy assignments also took him to many countries in Africa, the Middle East and America. His retired years are spent in all kinds of activities and accumulating knowledge for which there was no time during his active life
The lecture aims to show that the development of wind and solar energy is a wise decision, but that with the current infrastructure, fossil fuels will continue to be needed for a long time to come and that shale gas would fit right in. Above all, the lecture will bust the myth that shale gas must irrevocably lead to drinking water pollution.
