Shell Moerdijk
Description
Region South, together with the Oil and Gas Technology Department are organising the visit to Shell Moerdijk.
Since the 1970s, Shell's chemical complex has been located on the Moerdijk industrial and port site. More than 800 employees and 500 contractors work here.
From naphtha, hydrowax, LPG and gas oil, the plants at Shell Moerdijk produce mainly the basic chemicals ethylene, butadiene, propylene, ethylene oxide, ethylene glycols, propylene oxide and styrene monomer. These are products that do not mean much to most people, yet everyone encounters them in everyday life.
Indeed, society as we know it would not exist if there were no basic petrochemicals for the mass production of consumer products.
The basic chemicals made at Shell Moerdijk are processed by other companies into products we use every day. Their end uses are very diverse. They are the tyres under a car, shoe soles and also mattresses or garden chairs. But also the packaging of CDs, paint and packaging material.
Do you ever wonder what goes on inside the gates of Shell Moerdijk's chemical complex? Then this is your chance to find out.
