Tech giant Google is starting an online workshop to polish digital skills of SMEs.

In its blog Monday, Google itself speaks of "enabling small businesses and self-employed people to use the internet as a growth engine".

Google has set itself the goal of training 30,000 people by the end of next year. The company is using training in physical locations, the first of which is Eindhoven, and an online platform.

The company is also setting up similar workshops elsewhere in Europe. In total, one million people should be digitally upskilled in the coming period.

Google is collaborating with microfinancier Qredits on this. It chose starting city Eindhoven as the "digital capital" of the Netherlands. Other Dutch cities will also be visited in 2016. There will also be an online training platform where smaller companies and freelancers can acquire digital skills.
