Description

As you are undoubtedly aware, engineering firm Walhout Civil BV has been actively involved in the salvage of the cruise ship Costa Concordia in Italy for over 2.5 years. The disaster ship (which sank off the coast of Isola del Giglio in January 2012) was successfully raised last July using huge steel caissons and towed away to Genoa. The wreck salvage is considered the world's largest, most expensive and complicated salvage operation ever.

Walhout Civil played a key role in the engineering and execution of various structures and the ballast control system, among other things. This high-tech system was used to control and monitor all systems, vessels and structures during the rotation (parbuckling), refloating and towage of the wreck.

Through this lecture, we want to give an exclusive insight into the technical challenges of the salvage and the solutions chosen to overcome them. Stunning and unique images will be shown.

Various authorities, companies and clubs will be present during the lecture.
