Description

The Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier is the final piece of the Delta Works. This barrier can close the entire Oosterschelde and protects part of Zeeland from extreme high water. Under normal conditions, the barrier is submersible, a unique project to visit.

We are welcomed in the Topshuis with coffee/tea and some goodies.

A film will be shown showing how proud the Rijkswaterstaat employees are of their important work. Then, weather permitting, we will visit the roof, with fantastic views over the North Sea and Oosterschelde.

Then the guided tour starts, in which we visit the public pillar accompanied by an expert guide. After the tour, there will be a drinks reception.

Details and registration
- make sure you wear weather-appropriate clothing/shoes (warm coat) + remember to bring passport or ID
- should the weather not allow it (e.g. due to strong wind), the visit to the roof of the Topshuis will be cancelled
- should the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier become operational, the Topshuis will be evacuated.
