Description

Vroon in Breskens was founded by the Vroon family more than a century ago. Initially, the company traded in coal, fertilisers and agricultural products. In 1952, the first dry cargo ship was built. In the 1960s, it focused solely on shipping and thus accelerated its growth.

Today, Vroon is a dynamic and ambitious shipping company operating worldwide in seven markets:
- Refrigerated transport;
- Livestock transport;
- Offshore supply and services (towing services, rescue services, installation and maintenance of wind turbines);
- Bulk transport (dry);
- Container transport;
- Tankers;
- Car transport.

Besides maintenance of the 140 existing vessels, upgrade/conversion of acquired vessels, the engineering department is responsible for supervising a large newbuilding programme.
During our visit, we will take a closer look at the engineering on board the " Resolution". This ship can jack itself up along six legs in order to build high wind turbines in the sea.

This is a very interesting visit for everyone and highly recommended for members with a maritime or mechanical engineering background.
