Description
Yara International ASA is a global company specialising in agricultural products and environmental protection agents. It is the world's largest supplier of fertilisers. Its products also help clean the air and remove toxic waste. The company is based in Oslo, employs about 7600 people and achieves a turnover of almost NOK 62 billion/ 7 billion Euro with operations in more than 50 countries.
The Sluiskil production site celebrates its 81th anniversary this year. Yara's predecessors included Hydro Agri, NSM.
Among the products produced at the site are ammonia (about 5,000 tonnes/day), ammonia water, CO2, nitric acid, nitrate and urea. It also supplies electricity to the grid and heat and CO2 to its horticultural neighbours. The site has its own unloading/loading facilities on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.
A large new urea plant (Urea 7) is under construction and will be commissioned in 2011. The commissioning of a large power plant was the major new construction project for Urea 7
