Science Café - Graph theory: from NS to VIRUSS

Everyone knows butter-cheese-and-eggs. But do you also know the puzzle of the wolf, the cabbage and the goat? The dilemmas behind the NS railway timetable? And what does this have to do with the spread of viruses?
All these things can be captured mathematically by 'graphs'. With these, diverse structures - games, railway connections, but also viruses - can be described in a uniform way. Prof Arend Rensink (Computer Science, UT) shows that this can lead to surprising solutions. Hans van der Laan & Pim van Leeuwen (Master students Computer Science, UT) show how they used graphs to crack the video game Portal.
Talkshow host: prof. dr. ing. Dave Blank (research advisor Saxion).
