Since a few weeks, the time has come. The vaccines against COVID-19 are being distributed, the Dutch vaccination campaign has begun! All hope is pinned on the vaccines that could eventually put an end to the 1.5-metre society.

A huge vaccination and testing centre has also been erected on the campus of the University of Twente in a short time. This was an extra reason for KIVI Students Twente to organise a lecture on this!

In the Netherlands, vaccinations are currently being carried out with the Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, both based on mRNA technology. How exactly do these vaccinations work? What are the potential long-term consequences? What is philosophy behind the Dutch vaccination strategy? Relevant questions that need medico-technical answers.

Diederik Gommers is Professor of Intensive Care Medicine and a specialist on the Member Outbreak Management Team (OMT) that advises the government on public health measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. In 2020, he was awarded the Machiavelli Prize for his "relentless efforts to make the science on coronavirus accessible to a wide audience".

On Thursday 18 February at 16:00, Diederik Gommers will give an online lecture on the technical-medical functioning of COVID-19 vaccines and the associated vaccination strategy. A substantive talk, with room for questions.

You can register via the KIVI website. Here you can also submit a question for Diederik Gommers if you wish.

The link for participation will be sent via email later.
