Women in Science
On 10 October 2013, in collaboration with FFNT and NVI, we organised the second edition of Women In Science. On this afternoon, organised for and by women, the 50 participants received pitches from inspiring women, a workshop, a discussion café and the chance to network while enjoying a buffet and drinks. The workshops were given by Jannet Huizinga (Sales 4 Females) and Tessa van Schoonhoven (Passie in je werk) and were very well received by all participants.
In addition, a number of interesting points emerged in the discussion café: for instance, many women feel they have to work harder than men to achieve the same, and that it takes a while before your male colleagues consider you one of them instead of 'the only woman'.
We thought it was a very successful afternoon! The food was good, the workshops interesting and the drinks were a nice networking opportunity.
We would like to thank FFNT, NVI, Shell, Thales and PANalytical, for their contribution, both financially and in terms of content. We would also like to thank Tessa van Schoonhoven and Jannet Huizinga, who provided the fantastic workshops.
The UT News was also present and wrote a nice piece about our activity, which you can read here.
Thank you for coming and we hope to see you again next year!
Description
KIVI NIRIA Students Twente, in cooperation with the Network of Female Engineers and the Female Faculty Network Twente (FFNT), is organising
WOMEN IN SCIENCE: Inspiration for your career.
After the success of last year, it has been decided to make this an annual event.
The aim of this activity is to connect female students, academics and businesswomen and to inspire them to be the best they can be. As 'the best' is different for everyone, there will be speakers from both business and academia. Chairman of the day is Dr Wietske Bijker.
In addition, there are two parallel workshops:
- Passion in your work: How can you (re)connect with your passion?
And above all, how do you put that into practice?
By Tessa van Schoonhoven
- Sales for females: How can you sell yourself, your idea or your company in a way that is natural for you?
By Jannet Huizinga
Besides the workshop of your choice, there will be a discussion café with the two speakers of the day and an extensive buffet. Afterwards, there will be drinks with the opportunity to network with the speakers and the other participants.
