On 4 May, Peter Timmerman of Studium Generale and Esmee Buter of KIVI Students Twente talked to David Fernandez Rivas.
Many people suffer from prick-fear; the sight of an injection needle makes them break out in a clammy sweat. The University of Twente is working on a solution: injecting without a needle.
David is working on a new method to inject drugs using a super-fast jet of liquid. In an ingenious injection device, a laser heats part of the liquid, creating a vapour bubble. The bubble shoots out the rest of the liquid at high speed (about 300 kilometres per hour). This jet goes right through the skin; all you feel is a mosquito sting. The device is still in development, but it is expected to be able to treat pigmentation spots and scars in a few years. Further research is being done on corona vaccine injection.
An interactive meeting with an engaging presentation and many questions from the online audience.
