Extension of Eefde lock

Description
Our circle of purely engineers with very diverse disciplines meets every second Tuesday of the month at 18:00 in Het Bosrestaurant at Joppelaan 100 in Gorssel (Joppe). The evenings last until about 21:00 (if it is very sociable, it sometimes extends to 21:30).
During this meeting, a wide variety of often technical subjects are discussed in a good, friendly atmosphere. The meetings always proceed with a lot of interaction and discussion. Besides being informed and able to talk along on very diverse topics, it is great fun to get to know each other well.
The ambiance is chosen with care. The dinner we have together is always of excellent quality. Moreover, there is plenty of opportunity for networking and establishing friendly conversations.
On Tuesday 10 October 2017, ir. Ernst Rijsdijk, ing. Gerold Schaap and ing. Jan Roseboom will give a presentation on the new lock chamber at Eefde Lock.
In late 2016, as part of capacity expansion, Rijkswaterstaat commissioned the Lock to Twente (L2T) contractor combination to build a second lock at Eefde.
A second lock chamber at Eefde reduces waiting times for ships and makes this important access to Twente less vulnerable during maintenance and calamities. The new chamber will be suitable for class Va vessels, the largest type of ship allowed after the Twente canals were widened.
The lock will have a segment door, unique in the Netherlands, which lies flat on the bottom when the lock is open. The segmental door will swing up when the lock closes.
This clever piece of hydraulic engineering also works in the event of a sudden very high water flow/pressure, for example due to a calamity. If a ship enters the lock from the Twente Canal and breaks the two point doors on the IJssel side, the Twente Canal empties into the IJssel. At that point, the segment door can still be closed against the flow of water.
L2T, a partnership between TBI companies Mobilis [Civil Engineering] and Croonwolters&dros [Technical Installations], is responsible for the pre-financing, design, construction and 27-year maintenance of the new lock.
During the tender phase, Tauw and Movares et al advised the contractor combination. Mobilis, together with Tauw, Movares and others, has since started work on the final design and L2T is expected to start preparatory work for the construction phase in late 2017. The actual construction of the second lock chamber is planned for 2018 and the first ships will sail through the new lock in mid-2020.
'Connecting infrastructure projects smartly, this is how we create a future-proof living environment'
Speaker(s)
Ernst Rijsdijk is employed by RWS. Ernst is the environment manager and deals with the project and how the environment is and will be involved in the realisation of the new lock.
Gerold Schaap is employed by Mobilis | TBI and supervised and contracted this project as tender manager. He is now project director and ultimately responsible for the entire 27-year DBFM contract. Gerold will talk a little about the Eefde lock expansion project, its organisation, financing and the DBFM contract.
Jan Roseboom is employed by Croonwolter&dros | TBI and he was also involved in the tender and now has final responsibility for Technical Installations of the Lock. Jan will tell something about the design process of the technical installations according to System Engineering and the many interfaces in the project
