Construction of the RijnlandRoute
|
On 24 May, the project visit took place at the construction site of the RijnlandRoute bored tunnel. The approximately 30 attendees were given an insight into the design aspects by Arjan van der Put, technical advisor, of the tunnel boring machine. In the start shaft, hard work is being done to assemble the tunnel boring machine. The 13 largest and heaviest parts of the drill have arrived by barge at Mammoet's Heavy Lift Terminal in Schiedam. Some parts weigh more than 150,000 kilos. A great job, check out the photos and video |

The RijnlandRoute will open its construction site on 15 June during the national Construction Day. A unique opportunity to descend into the 18-metre-deep construction pit and take a closer look at the work. In addition, you can admire the tunnel boring machine up close. This travelling factory, measuring over 100 metres long and 11 metres in diameter, will then be fully assembled. The adjacent information centre will also be open that day and there will be activities for children. For more information on the programme, accessibility and travel advice, click here.
The RijnlandRoute is a new road between Katwijk - via the A44 - and the A4 near Leiden. The road will solve current bottlenecks and help improve traffic flow in the Holland Rijnland region, especially around Leiden and Katwijk. Comol5 is constructing the first section of the RijnlandRoute. The new road (N434) between the A4 and A44, including a 2.5-kilometre tunnel and modifications to the A4 and A44. The company visit will give an insight into the preparatory work.

Take a look at the photos of hoisting the wheel. In addition, the bentonite separation plant required for the drilling process was built next to the A4 during the past period. We will start drilling the first tunnel tube at the beginning of July.
The RijnlandRoute is a new road between Katwijk - via the A44 - and the A4 near Leiden. The road solves current bottlenecks and contributes to better traffic flow in the Holland Rijnland region, especially around Leiden and Katwijk.
The RijnlandRoute is divided into 3 project sections, which connect to each other:
1. The new road (N434) between the A4 and A44, including a 2.5-kilometre tunnel and modifications to the A4 and A44.
2. The widening of the Ir. G. Tjalmaweg (N206) from its junction with the N441 Katwijk to the Leiden-West junction.
3. The widening of the Europaweg (N206) between the A4 and Churchilllaan in Leiden.
