The Waterbouwdag 2019 will take place on Thursday 3 October at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht (Beatrix Theatre).
This annual event provides an overview of the latest developments and new projects in the hydraulic engineering sector. For hydraulic engineers from the Netherlands and Belgium, it is the opportunity to meet fellow professionals. It is not only a fascinating day for experienced experts, but also for young professionals and students.

Theme: Towards Circular Construction in Water
The construction sector is responsible for one third of CO2 emissions worldwide. To meet the Paris climate agreements, the construction industry must emit 77% less CO2 by 2050 than it does today. This huge global task also affects our hydraulic engineering sector. How can we contribute to this?

In reinforcing the Afsluitdijk, for example, new blocks have been developed that use less concrete and therefore emit 50% less CO2 than a conventional reinforcement. Solar parks are also being realised and a lot of energy is being saved through efficient sluicing and pumping. A great development!

But still, more effort and knowledge is needed to meet the targets that fit the national and international climate agreements. Because in addition to CO2 emissions, the construction sector also uses 40% of extracted raw materials and produces huge amounts of waste. Can we create a win-win situation with circular hydraulic engineering? Using fewer raw materials and emitting less CO2? Many projects are already paying attention to this sustainability: think, for example, of the reuse of the blocks for coastal defence of the first Maasvlakte for new land reclamation.

How can we include circular thinking even more in tendering, design, management and maintenance? And what kind of projects will this lead to?
During the Hydraulic Construction Day 2019, we will consider these questions and developments in our sector on the basis of appealing projects.

Information market
An important meeting place during the Hydraulic Construction Day is the information market. At this market, companies and institutions present their latest products and services. Would you like to be on the information market with your company? If so, please contact Angelique van Tongeren of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) on telephone number 070-3919890 or e-mail waterbouwdag@kivi.nl.

More information will follow a.s.a.p. at www.waterbouwdag.nl

Also come to the Hydraulic Engineering Day! The meeting for the entire hydraulic engineering sector, from clients, consultancies and contractors to young colleagues and students.
