Due to the negative development of the corona virus, host Van Beest has chosen to cancel all visits to the plant that are not necessarily necessary. This is being done out of concern for the visitors, its staff and the continuity of the company

With topical theme: 'Preserving Manufacturing Industry'. OnShoring in the light of Robotisation

Already three years back, KIVI Business-South held its last symposium around the theme of ReShoring and OnShoring Manufacturing. The main conclusions were: Successful ReShoring of Manufacturing requires more than just reclaiming all previous manufacturing assets. ReShoring usually requires a drastic redirection of processes. Thus, the introduction of new concepts such as TQM, use of social programmes, automation c.q. robotisation and QRM were mentioned as conditions for success. At the time, we promised to back up this message with excursions.

After all, ReShore practical examples are still the most convincing. Thus, we have since visited: Omron with TQM, Ferro-Fix with Deployment of people with a distance to the labour market, Interfocos with QRM, Emerson opted for production closer to the market and Capi succeeded with deployment on Robotisation. Through these actions, these companies succeeded in bringing back production from the east.

An appealing example of Robotisation offers Van Beest. Manufacturer Van Beest is a global player in the market of high-quality accessories for applications such as hoisting, lashing and mooring. A few years back, Van Beest transformed its processes to meet the conditions to keep its production for the Netherlands. To this end, it has all the production steps performed by Robots. Like Emerson, Van Beest can continue to produce close to its market (including dredging and offshore) and leave the price-fighters behind.

During this visit, the management will explain how this has been achieved, and why a competitive cost price, while important, is not all-important for production in Sliedrecht. Many additional benefits are achieved on quality, flexibility, controllability, time to market, logistics and asset utilisation, among others. Last but not least, great commitment and responsibility of individual employees to the product is achieved. Van Beest shows that retaining Dutch manufacturing industry is not only possible, but also a must because of quality and flexibility.

Manager convince yourself, be informed how Van Beest grows by implementing consistent and consistent Robotics.

Check my statement: "Flight of manufacturing industry into OffShoring is usually a sign of weakness".

And.....best KIVI members remember: Without Manufacturing, no engineers!
