Waalfront is a transformation area along De Waal and against Nijmegen's city centre. The area faces the beautiful side channel that is part of the Room for the River programme. The outdated Waalfront business park will be transformed into a new urban district with 2,200 homes and urban facilities by 2030. The municipality of Nijmegen and BPD|Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling are jointly responsible for this large-scale area development. Most of the area has now been completed. Waalfront is often used as a reference for large-scale construction projects and public-private partnerships.

The major technical challenges in the building projects are of a structural and hydrological nature; think of the use of high-rise buildings in the flood defences. These challenges will be discussed in detail during this excursion, which will be organised by BPD, RHDHV and Aveco de Bondt.

On behalf of BPD, Henri Schimmel and Berry Evers will give a short presentation on the area development.

Aveco de bondt and RHDHV will both give a presentation (of about 20 minutes each) on Waalkwartier and the primary flood defence specifically.

What requirements does the Water Board make and how is this organised in practice.

Both Aveco and RHDHV work hard, often behind the scenes, on important themes in the building task.

This presentation is a great opportunity for them to come out of anonymity and tell / show what that means in Waalkwartier
