In recent years, much research has been done on the possibilities of unmanned and autonomous navigation. This research has mainly focused on automating navigation and safely applying COLREGs. On board a ship, however, only a small part of the crew is involved in navigation. The rest of the crew has other tasks, which, like navigation, are important for the ship's mission. To design an unmanned ship, there must be a solution for all crew tasks. In her PhD research, Carmen Kooij has set up a method that makes it possible to calculate different ship and crew concepts to choose economically viable ones.
