Excursion Project Power2Gas & ALV Electrical Engineering

This year, the Electrical Engineering Section board has chosen to combine the Electrical Engineering AGM with

a field trip to a Power2Gas project of Stedin near Roozenburg . This is an excellent opportunity to meet physically again.

We assume you have good shoes for a wet construction site and rain gear for when the weather is bad.

The programme is as follows:

11:30 hrs - walk-in / reception at Restaurant Café 't Hofplein Roozenburg

12:00 hrs - ALV Elektrotechniek

13:00 h - Departure to Power2Gas project with guided tour and explanation by Albert van de Molen Stedin

15:00 - End of guided tour departure to Rozenburg Centre

Distribution station under construction on the Yangtze Canal (Haringvliet)

Stedin is building this station to facilitate the huge demand for electricity by large companies on Maasvlakte 2.

the distribution station will convert electricity from 66,000 volts to 25,000 and 23,000 volts.

This will be used to supply electricity to factories making parts for wind turbines and a biofuel plant, among others.

Five new Distribution Stations

Companies in the port of Rotterdam emit 14% of total Dutch CO2 emissions. By 2050, these emissions should be zero.

One solution to this is to use electricity rather than natural gas or coal for chemical business processes.

This means much more capacity is needed on the electricity grid. Stedin is rapidly expanding the electricity grid in the port. Five new distribution stations are being rapidly built, four existing stations expanded and 14 kilometres of new cables laid.

The stations and cables need space below and above ground. Something that is hardly available in the port. This makes the expansion of the electricity grid a complex puzzle.
