Climate refugees and climate policy
Description
Theme "Climate refugees and renewable energy" as part of EU Sustainable Week.
A humanitarian disaster is currently unfolding in Sub-Saharan countries. Many people are fleeing the
drought (sometimes combined with war). We can expect the
climate refugees to become a recurring political theme in the coming years.
The association VZKC, Vereniging voor ZonneKrachtCentrales organises a couple of times a year a
theme afternoon, in this case the theme is: "Climate refugees and renewable energy".
The association aims to tackle climate change by switching to renewable energy as soon as possible, in which the deserts are thought to play an important role.
Sub-Saharan countries are an ideal opportunity for development because of the great sunshine conditions, while these countries generally lack proper electricity infrastructure, one of the prerequisites for
economic development. But also for the ability to produce clean drinking water.
The association VZKC is committed to this in the coming years.
The problem countries are extremely poor.
What is Europe's (and the Netherlands') responsibility when it comes to this problem?
What should be done in the context of the Paris climate agreement?
What should be done in the context of development cooperation?
What should be done in the context of the fight against terrorism?
Questions to which a starting answer will be formulated at this seminar.
You are invited to join the discussion on this.
