E-Lunch session: students from Twente race with Hydrogen
In its series of lunch webinars, KIVI Department of Electrical Engineering wants to show, among other things, what is happening in Dutch education in the field of energy transition. What are students and teachers working on? What visions are there? What projects are running? Today's webinar is hosted by students from Green Team Twente.
From theory in the lecture halls to practice with hydrogen in automobility
Green Team Twente is a multidisciplinary team consisting of 27 ambitious and enthusiastic students from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences. They are in a hurry to apply hydrogen as a fuel. All driven by passion and enthusiasm for technology, sustainability and innovation, they are taking a year to fully focus on their project: the race to build the fastest and most efficient hydrogen car. Green Team Twente has been innovating on efficiency around hydrogen automobility for 10 years and every year a new team continues to innovate on this knowledge.
Hydrogen as an energy source for mobility
Nowadays, we are increasingly aware of sustainable energy sources, which is very good. Because oil and gas are still our main sources of energy today, but these fossil fuels are limited and have a negative impact on our environment. Renewable energy will be the solution to these serious future problems. The amount of renewable energy being generated is increasing, but we face a serious problem. Because how do we store all this renewable energy? Green Team Twente believes that hydrogen is the solution to this problem. After all, hydrogen has the highest energy density of all fuels by a margin and that is why hydrogen is an interesting energy carrier, also for mobility! It will be a matter of time before efficiency will increase in hydrogen technology, in which Green Team Twente is a forerunner.
By taking risks and implementing new technology on their hydrogen car, they continue to innovate. With such technical improvements, they expect the outside world to see that hydrogen is future-ready and a serious solution for a sustainable future. They are committed to demonstrating the potential of hydrogen in a responsible manner. This webinar will therefore mainly focus on:
- The application of hydrogen and technical powertrain. A clear rationale on the technologies implemented in the hydrogen car.
- The path of innovation of building most efficient hydrogen car. This will discuss the organisation and objectives of the project.
- Connection with society, sponsors and partners. What role stakeholders play in realising the development of the most efficient hydrogen car.
The speakers
Vincent van Krimpen is Chief Powertrain within Green Team Twente this year, he is responsible for the powertrain of the car. This starts with the hydrogen fuel cell and ends with the engine. For this, he studied Applied Physics at Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
Benthe Commissaris is the Communications Manager of Green Team Twente. She is responsible for the connection between the project and society. She works hard to realise this connection. Before joining the student team, she studied Technical Business Administration at the University of Twente for two years.
