The plan for CO2 neutral energy supply for the Netherlands in 2050 was presented on 1 December at the KIVI Annual Conference 2020. It concluded that the plan is feasible and affordable.
EnergyNL2050 energy plan
The team of the KIVI electrical engineering department has been working for several years to draw up a plan for the Dutch energy supply in 2050, with the starting point being to generate as much of our own energy as possible using only wind and sun. In the current plan (EnergyNL2050), it appears to be possible to generate the vast majority (85%) of the energy we need ourselves. All this without making excessive demands on the landscape and nature.
Feasible and Affordable
The plan has been through extensive simulations using time series for demand, supply and weather conditions. This has shown that CO2-free energy supply in 2050 is "Feasible" and "Affordable". This includes back-up using hydrogen storage for periods of low wind and solar. The basis of the plan is a solid capacity of PV (on land) and wind power, mainly offshore. That there are many options for offshore wind was told to us in detail by Jasper Vis of TenneT.

KIVI Annual Conference 2020
The plan was successfully presented by Eric Persoon and Koen Huizer at the KIVI Annual Conference 2020. For a detailed description visit the KIVI website https://www.kivi.nl/energieplan.
