Description

The Board of the Department of Engineering Physics hereby invites you to visit the Royal Meteorological Institute (KNMI) in De Bilt.

The KNMI is the national data and knowledge centre for weather, climate and seismology.
The KNMI was established by Royal Decree on 31 January 1854.
Its first director-in-chief Prof. C.H.D. Buys Ballot chose the Sonnenborgh observatory in Utrecht as the location. In 1897, the Institute moved to De Bilt. The Institute employs around 500 people.

The excursions to the KNMI are organised by former staff members of the institute, which means that the scientific aspects of the KNMI's tasks during the excursion may not be as in-depth as you're used to.
However, you can expect a decidedly broad overview of the Institute's past and present activities.

The excursion includes a communal lunch and, of course, ample networking opportunities

The excursion includes a visit to the museum and pavilion. These are old buildings that are only accessible by stairs. A lift or other aid for people with mobility problems is unfortunately not available.

The excursion will take place with a minimum of 15 participants. The maximum is 30.
If the number of participants exceeds the registration limit, a reserve list will be kept. The names of participants will be communicated to KNMI in advance. You must be able to identify yourself upon entry.
