Floating district in Maashaven Rotterdam
Description
Rotterdam
- is looking for locations for housing
- will build climate-proof
- wants to preserve its port character
- is committed to an energy-neutral city
Therefore, students of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences from the programmes Civil Engineering, Spatial Planning & Planning and Real Estate & Real Estate Brokerage have made designs for a floating sustainable district in the Maashaven. The possibilities and impossibilities of a floating district will be presented in a small exhibition in the form of models and poster presentations. The exhibition will be opened by Mark Harbers, Rotterdam alderman for port and environment. The students' impetus will inspire the debate, which will be introduced by Jan Rotmans (Professor of Transition Management EUR) and Peter van Rooij (Habiforum).
Workshop 1: Designing floating infrastructure (Gemeentewerken Rotterdam)
It has been shown that the design of infrastructure is particularly important when designing a floating district. Together with Gemeentewerken Rotterdam, this specific issue will be worked out.
Workshop 2: Sustainable design of the floating district (DCMR, Stadshavens Rotterdam)
The Municipality of Rotterdam has focused on sustainability in the Stadshavens Rotterdam project. Explanations are given on the strategy for sustainable area development of the Stadshavens area and the ambition for working and living on the water. The workshop should inspire additional impetus for this strategy.
Workshop 3: Floating district stimulates surrounding neighbourhoods (Feijenoord District Council, Rotterdam University, Urgenda)
The floating district contributes to Rotterdam's housing programme within its own city limits. In addition, the floating district has the potential to stimulate the development of surrounding neighbourhoods. How can this potential be optimally used in the development of Afrikaanderbuurt and Tarwewijk. Deelgemeente Feijenoord is particularly interested in these possibilities.
Workshop 4: Regulations and building on the water (o.v.b.).
